Ketamine treatment
Ketamine is not FDA-approved specifically for OCD. Research is preliminary, and a response to ketamine in depression does not establish that it treats OCD. Ask a clinician about exposure and response prevention, medication and the evidence and risks for any off-label option.
Tell us a little about you. A care coordinator will match you with a ketamine clinic near you.

Woodlawn is an active, unincorporated community situated in Baltimore County within central Maryland. Positioned just west of the Baltimore city limits, Woodlawn is home to a diverse residential population and significant federal agency headquarters. As alternative mental health therapies gain traction across the Baltimore metropolitan area, residents of Woodlawn are increasingly looking into the potential benefits and clinical requirements of advanced treatments for severe depression.
Because psychiatric care providers are distributed throughout the state, individuals in Woodlawn often research regional practices to understand what therapies exist. For instance, Springs Health LLC is located in nearby Columbia and lists Spravato treatment on its official website. Further south, The Mood Center operates an office in Annapolis, noting IV and IM ketamine therapies alongside Spravato (esketamine). In Montgomery County, Avesta Ketamine and Wellness Bethesda provides IV ketamine therapy, Spravato, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Looking at these practices helps patients gauge the variety of care models available when considering these complex medications.
Evaluating treatment logistics frequently requires patients to explore the broader region. Woodlawn residents might find it beneficial to read through guides for neighboring areas. Reviewing resources for Catonsville to the south, Randallstown to the north, or nearby Ellicott City can offer a more comprehensive view of central Maryland's mental health landscape, helping individuals make deliberate, well-informed healthcare decisions.
Treatment schedules vary by clinic and treatment type, so plan transportation for each visit. Distances below are straight-line miles from Woodlawn.

Patients researching ketamine treatments must carefully navigate the differing cost structures associated with specific therapies. Off-label approaches, including intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), and sublingual ketamine, do not hold FDA approval for treating psychiatric disorders. Consequently, medical insurance policies rarely cover these formulations, meaning patients usually bear the full financial responsibility out-of-pocket. It is highly recommended that prospective patients request a comprehensive written estimate from the clinic before initiating any treatment plan.
Unlike off-label ketamine therapies, Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray designed specifically for certain adult depression indications. Because of its approved status, health insurance plans frequently offer coverage for Spravato, though prior authorization is often necessary and out-of-pocket copayments can vary. Individuals should always keep in mind that the FDA warns patients and health care providers about potential risks associated with compounded ketamine products. Additionally, patients must budget for the logistical costs of repeated appointments, taking into account transportation expenses, potential time away from employment, and lodging if frequent travel to distant central Maryland clinics is required.
Beginning specialized psychiatric treatments involves significant logistical coordination and an initial clinical assessment. Spravato must be administered in a certified healthcare setting, requiring patients to remain on-site for at least two hours of careful medical observation. Patients are prohibited from driving until the next day after a restful sleep, which requires securing a responsible adult to provide transportation. Regular travel to a clinic can be heavily impacted by Baltimore metropolitan area traffic on highways like I-695, as well as unpredictable winter snow and ice or severe storms in central Maryland.
While telehealth platforms offer convenient avenues for initial psychological assessments, they cannot replace the strict requirements of in-person treatment protocols. Spravato is heavily regulated and is never administered at home. Some medical providers may prescribe off-label compounded ketamine for home use; however, these medications are not FDA-approved for psychiatric care. The FDA explicitly warns against utilizing these formulations without on-site clinical monitoring due to potential adverse side effects. Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis should immediately contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 (available 24/7) or dialing 911 for urgent assistance.
Our directory emphasizes regional clinic examples across central Maryland to give you a sense of the available care. Many residents in Woodlawn research practices throughout the greater Baltimore metropolitan area to find a facility that aligns with their specific therapeutic needs and financial requirements.
During a session, you will administer the Spravato nasal spray yourself under the direct supervision of a healthcare professional in a certified clinic. You must remain at the facility for at least two hours so the medical staff can monitor you for any potential side effects before discharge.
No, you cannot drive yourself home. Safety protocols strictly forbid operating a vehicle or heavy machinery until the day after your treatment, following a restful sleep. You must arrange for a responsible adult to safely drive you back to your residence in Woodlawn after your appointment.
No. While some clinical providers prescribe ketamine to treat conditions like PTSD, chronic pain, or OCD, these applications are entirely off-label. The FDA has only approved Spravato (esketamine) for specific adult depression indications. Off-label ketamine therapies generally lack insurance coverage and standardized FDA dosing protocols.
Because compounded ketamine lozenges are not FDA-approved for psychiatric conditions, health insurance plans almost never cover them. Patients usually pay for these off-label prescriptions out-of-pocket. Additionally, the FDA strongly advises against using compounded ketamine formulations at home without direct, in-person medical monitoring due to safety risks.
Frequent congestion along the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and surrounding central Maryland routes can make commuting to repeated clinical sessions challenging. Because treatments require a designated driver and a mandatory two-hour observation period, patients must factor potential traffic delays into their logistical and transportation planning.
Costs, coverage & aftercare
IV, IM and compounded ketamine for psychiatric conditions are off-label; many programs are self-pay. Ask about assessment, medication, administration, monitoring, therapy and maintenance charges separately. We do not assume a statewide price.
Spravato is FDA-approved esketamine, not the same as ketamine infusions. Coverage is not guaranteed. Check eligibility, prior authorization, network status, drug and visit charges, deductibles and copays with your insurer and clinic.
Spravato requires a certified healthcare setting and monitoring for at least two hours. Arrange transport home; do not drive until the next day after restful sleep. For other ketamine treatments, follow your clinician's instructions. Follow-up and maintenance depend on response and tolerability.
Ask who manages your medications, how your usual clinician will receive updates, and whom to contact between visits. Neither a shortage designation nor local depression statistics show that ketamine is appropriate or effective for you. Consult a licensed physician.
Use these questions when you call or book a consultation with any Woodlawn provider.
Ask whether a physician, psychiatrist or anesthesiologist oversees each session and who you can reach afterward.
A good clinic reviews your history, medications, blood pressure and past treatments before recommending ketamine.
Look for continuous vital-sign monitoring and a calm, private recovery space.
IV infusions, Spravato® nasal spray, IM or sublingual options suit different goals and budgets.
Ask how the clinic coordinates with your therapist or offers integration support between sessions.
Request a written estimate for the first series and any maintenance sessions before you start.
